The sound of rain falling upon the roof at night, as it plinks into the metallic gutters or plunk-plops onto the grass has a romantic quality to it. Thunderstorms can really be exciting to that effect, but there's something so melancholic about a rainy day. It just doesn't hold the same magic. I tend to long for night on these overcast, dreary days, so that saturnine feeling can turn dreamy as it drifts toward atmospheric. So I can succumb to my emotionally sadomasochistic desires.
